How the service works
The program works with a large network of activity providers, but an application is for a particular child, activity and season. Confirm the provider and program choice, gather support for financial need and submit before committing to a fee. A previous approval does not automatically reserve another season.
The application route and the recreation registration route are separate. The acceptance letter explains how to register after approval. Keep that letter, any family contribution details and provider instructions together so the registration matches the approved activity.

Eligibility and local rules
Who is the program for?
Children and youth up to 18 whose families cannot afford recreation registration. The child must not already be taking part in another paid activity under the program’s published criteria.
How many activities can be supported?
One program per child per season. Funding is first come, first served, and a new application is needed for each activity request.
Should I register and pay first?
No. PRO Kids does not reimburse fees already paid. Apply first and wait for the acceptance instructions before registering with the provider.
Using the service
What activity details should the application include?
Identify the activity and its partner organization, along with the child and household information requested. A general wish to play a sport is less useful than the actual program choice.
How can financial need be supported?
A reference such as a social worker, financial advisor, teacher or employer can attest to need. The city also lists documents such as a pay statement, ODSP or TBDSSAB statement, or Notice of Assessment summary.
How do I avoid sending a blank PDF?
Download and save the application before completing it, then fill it, sign it and upload the saved version. The city warns that entering details only in a browser can produce a blank file.
Can I submit without using the online upload?
Yes. The application can be mailed, faxed or dropped off at the Recreation and Culture Division,2445 Sleeping Giant Parkway. The listed fax is 807-684-9240.
Exceptions and help
How will I know what to do after approval?
Acceptance is sent by email or post with registration instructions. PRO Kids also sends the approved list to the provider. Follow those instructions rather than registering early.
Does approval always cover every cost?
No. A family contribution may be required. The main support is registration, not travel, tournaments or clothing. Discuss equipment or transport exceptions with the coordinator before assuming coverage.
Where can I ask about transport or application problems?
Contact the PRO Kids Coordinator at 807-625-3212 or prokids@thunderbay.ca. Transit support may be considered when the need is identified in the application.
